Make an image 20 KB or smaller

This page opens the image resizer with a 20 KB maximum already set. Add your photo, check the final size in KB and pixels, and download it.

3. File size and format

Maximum file size

Saved as JPG. Kept under 20,000 bytes, so it passes whether a site counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.

Add an image to resize it.

Check the size and file limits in your form's instructions before uploading.

How to get an image under 20 KB

  1. Add the image

Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC image. The 20 KB maximum is already selected.

  2. Look at the size your form asks for

Check your form's notice for the pixel or cm size as well. If it gives one, enter it. If you type no size, the tool may reduce the pixel size by itself when that is needed to reach 20 KB.

  3. Read the result

The tool lowers the JPG quality step by step until the file fits, then shows the exact size in KB and pixels.

  4. Download

Save the JPG. If the picture looks too soft, try a smaller pixel size, which usually keeps it sharper than a very low quality setting.

Why use this page

  • 20 KB set from the start

You do not need to find the setting. The maximum file size is pre-filled with 20 KB (counted as 20,000 bytes, so it passes whichever way a site counts KB). You can still change it to 50, 100 or 200 KB or a custom value.

  • Size and KB together

Add exact pixel, cm, mm or inch dimensions as well, so one download can meet both the dimension and the KB limit your form asks for.

  • Exact result shown

You see the final file size in KB and the pixel size before you download, rather than guessing.

  • Clear when 20 KB is out of reach

If a very large photo cannot reach 20 KB at an acceptable quality, the pixel size is reduced, as long as you did not type a size. If you fixed exact pixel dimensions, the tool says it cannot reach the target instead of spoiling the picture silently.

  • Stays on your device

The image is processed in your browser and not uploaded. Free, no sign-up, no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce an image to 20 KB?

Add your image on this page. The maximum file size is already 20 KB, so the tool lowers the JPG quality until the file fits and shows the final size. Then download it.

Will a 20 KB photo look blurry?

20 KB is small, so some detail is lost, especially on a large photo. A smaller pixel size often looks better than a very low quality setting. Check the result before you download it.

Why does a form reject my 20 KB file?

Many forms also check the pixel or cm size and the file type. Check your form's notice, set that size in the tool and keep the 20 KB limit, then compare the shown KB and pixels with what the form asks.

What if my form asks for a file between, say, 20 and 50 KB?

Use the 20 KB or 50 KB maximum that suits the upper limit. The tool does not add padding to make a file bigger, so if the result is below the minimum, raise the pixel size or allow a larger maximum and check again.

Can I use this for a PNG or an iPhone photo?

Yes. JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC are accepted. The result is always a JPG, and transparent areas of a PNG become white.

Is 20 KB the right size for my form?

Only your form's notice can say. Limits differ by form and year, and this page does not state any exam's requirements. It simply helps you meet a 20 KB limit if your form asks for one.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded. The tool is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
