Edit or remove PDF metadata
A PDF often carries your name, the app you used and when you made it. See what's there, change the title shown in browser tabs, or clear it all before you share the file.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove the author from a PDF?
Add the PDF, empty the Author field and download the new copy. Keep Remove XMP metadata ticked (it is ticked for you when you edit a field), because XMP holds a second copy of the author. Or press Remove all metadata.
What metadata does a PDF contain?
Usually a title, author, subject, keywords, the app that made it, the PDF producer, creation and modification dates, and often an XMP copy of the same details.
Does this remove XMP data?
Yes: tick Remove XMP metadata (it is ticked for you when you edit a field) or press Remove all metadata. XMP is removed from the document and from images and other objects inside it.
Is removing metadata the same as redaction?
No. Metadata is separate from the pages. To hide text on the pages, use Redact PDF.
Why doesn't my PDF's title show in the browser tab?
Browsers show the Title field if it's set, otherwise the file name. Set a Title here.
Does editing metadata change how the PDF looks?
No. Only the document properties change.
